Tracking Student Data in Google Sheets Part 2: Individual Student Data Sheets
In my first Tracking Data with Google Sheets video I walk you through setting up the spreadsheet to auto-calculate student percentages and averages, and conditional formatting to color code based on student mastery. In this Part 2 Google Sheets video, I walk you through using formulas to create individual student reporting pages based on your inputted data.
This Google Sheets video tutorial walks through pulling information from cells in another tab or sheet, adding graphs, and using the find and replace tool to duplicate the work simply and easily.
These individual student reporting pages are perfect for data conversations. They are easy to use for RtI or MTSS meetings, parent-conferences, or your PLC meetings.

    Hi this was amazing! I am trying to make somethings similar, however, I am making one where the students input their own data. The problem I have is with my envision the total number of questions change over time. Is their a formula for that?

    • @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom
      @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom 17 днів тому

      I'm not sure what you're asking exactly, so I apologize in advance if this doesn't help. You can put the total score field in as a place, and then figure out the actual score in a formula by referring back to that location. I believe you would need to have a place to enter the raw score as well. So you would enter the formula as something like =B4/B9 if B4 was the place where the total number of points was entered and B9 was the raw score for that individual student. Then for the next student it would be =B4/B10 referring back to the same quiz total but for the new student.

    Thank you! IS there a way to have the sheet give the class data as a whole? for example percent of class who is in the green for cvc or letter sounds?

    • @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom
      @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom 3 місяці тому

      Yes, there are many different count and count if functions you can add in. I will explain how I set up mine using B/C columns but the same is true for the others and you can use the corner drag to extend the formulas across. In B34, I added =COUNT(B3:B32) so that the number of students actually assessed was counted. That way, fluctuations due to student moves is accounted for. Then in B35, I used the formula =COUNTIF(C3:C32,">79%") to count the number of students at 80% or above. You can adjust that figure to what works for you. In C35 I built the equation =B35/B34 so I could figure out the percent of students at mastery. There are many different formulas you can build in and use to look at the data more globally.

    • @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom
      @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom 7 місяців тому

      Hi, sorry, no, my prebuilt templates only include spaces for 30 students. You could add additional rows to the tracking pages but not the individual student pages. That number of tabs for the student pages would be quite cumbersome.

    Nice video! It's a great activity, however I think it more useful to start with half, then next strip is quarters, and third strip is eighths. Students then see quarters as half of a half, and eighths as half of halves of a half. Similarly, do this with thirds, sixths, and ninths. In this way, they are seeing relationships between fraction families. You mentioned avoiding fifths because they are too tricky. Totally appropriate to avoid fifths and sevenths at this stage of learning fractions. A great way to generate discussion and to see what the students notice, particularly when you line up fraction bars from largest (halfs) to smallest (ninths). This activity is a great follow-up: education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/mathematics/mathematics-curriculum-resources-k-12/mathematics-k-6-resources/colour-in-fractions

  • @TBird6946

    This product is NOT user friendly the slides tabs/w ribbons is not editable there is however a bunch of pictures in which you have to copy from or download individually in order to use. By far this is one of the Worst products I have ever purchased from TPT I felt that it was very misleading.

    • @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom
      @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom Рік тому

      I am sorry you feel that it's misleading. I try to show in the preview file and in this video that it's something you put together on your own to match your needs, rather than something set up that requires you to follow a specific set of rotations or with specific rotation names or timings. In order to make it fit whatever you system uses, it can't come completely premade. I have tried to include as many starter options as I can to help it not feel cumbersome. If there's something specific that you feel would be more helpful, please let me know. The video shows how you can either insert the pictures or copy them from the given file. In the tutorial, I give several suggestions for making it quicker. You don't need to download anything separately or individually. Everything is in the downloaded folder that you used to access the file. You can insert everything you need in the time it takes you to insert 1 image. There is a background option for every style that is blank so you can put your own words on it, so it is editable.

    Ah, number fudging! You should always allow for students to get a 0. Otherwise it screws up the numbers... (in your favor)

    • @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom
      @TalesfromOutsidetheClassroom Рік тому

      Nothing in this video said you shouldn't allow for students to get a 0. In fact, I clearly stated it was a limitation in the method I was using. Anyone concerned with it being "number fudging" could just use "average" instead of "averageif". There is absolutely no intended "number fudging" here. Just trying to prevent a lack of score from actually fudging the numbers.
